Does God Know Me?
God is Good, God is Good to Me, and God is Good at Being God
Years ago, I came across a saying, introduced by Lysa Terkeurst, that has stayed with me: God is good, God is good to me, and God is good at being God. These three truths give us insight into God’s heart for us. When life feels uncertain or overwhelming, it’s essential to anchor ourselves in these truths, trusting God’s heart and His goodness even when His plan isn’t clear.
As a mother, there’s no doubt we feel invisible at times. I know that there’s a God up there, but does He see me?
God is Good.
Before we can begin to address if God knows YOU personally, YOU have to know God.
“See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him.” 1 John 3:1
You are His child, get to know Him and you will see.
So, who is God? He is Creator, Healer, Provider, Strength, Refuge, and our Almighty Father. Knowing who God is shapes how we see Him and ultimately how we see ourselves.
And who are we? If the Creator of the universe is all these things, and He created you, then you, too, are created with purpose and goodness. Scripture is clear—God is good. His goodness is the foundation of everything He makes. In Mark 10, even Jesus reminds us that only God is good, and His creation, including you, reflects that goodness.
Why would this Good God create such as mess as me?
You, in all the glorious mess that you are, Are God’s Finale
Let’s go back to Genesis 1-2. God created the heavens, earth, animals, plants, birds, and even the creepy crawly things (could have done without those, personally). After each act of creation, He declared it good. He created man. And He saw almost instantly something that was not good. The only thing not good in all of God’s incredible creation, is the absence of YOU. God spoke the words: it is not good for man to be alone.
He created the woman and then and only then did He look at His creation and say it was very good. Woman was the finale, the masterpiece. Everything is good… Heaven – good. Earth – good, Sun- good, moon – good, water, plants, animals, flowers, birds, fish, man – all good.
You dear sister – VERY GOOD.
God didn’t look at you and think, Eh, she’s okay. He saw you and declared, It is very good. You are the finale, created in His image, set apart to do great things. And then, He gave you the incredible privilege of co-creating life and raising His precious children.
God Knows Exactly Who You Are. He made you.
God is Good to Me
This brings us to the second part of the saying—God is good to me. Fast forward to a woman standing at a well, broken and ashamed, looking for water in the middle of the desert heat. She’s at the well mid-day because she wants to avoid all the people in her town. She is filled with shame because of her life choices.
A lot happens between the Garden of Eden and the Garden of Gethsemane. Women are marginalized, not valued as the only thing Very Good in God’s eyes. Women are second class citizens, among many other citizens. God comes down in the flesh to restore the world from the perversion it had become and to let His children know the world that He intended.
Jesus is the exact representation of God, so if we want to see the Heart of the Father, we only need to look at the life of Jesus.
Jesus, a Jewish man, approaches her—a Samaritan woman, which was culturally unheard of. But Jesus doesn’t care about social norms. He cares about her. He sees her and He has one mission; to show her she is valued in the eyes of the Father.
She tells Him that if He knew who she was, He wouldn’t be talking to her. But He does know. He knows every piece of shame she is carrying. Her life was changed because she encountered Jesus. He was good to her. He filled her well with living water—the Spirit that gives life and renewal. God sees us, chases us, and fills us with His goodness, no matter how broken we feel.
The Bible is full of stories where Jesus sought out women, elevated them, and showed them their true value. His ministry doesn’t diminish women—it honors and restores them, showing us that our worth comes from God.
In fact, it was the woman at the well to whom Jesus first revealed Himself as the Messiah. God’s heart for women is clear, and His plan is always perfect. She goes on to evangelize to her entire town!
God knows exactly who you are, He will never stop chasing you down to let you know His heart for you.
God is Good at Being God
Lastly, God is good at being God. He created us, sin entered the world, and then He made a way for us to return to Him through His Son. God is in control, working all things together for good. He took an impossible situation—our separation from Him—and fixed it. God loves to turn the impossible to possible!
We may not understand His reasons, and that may lead us to feel unseen or unknown. Sister, God sees You and He knows You. He never stops working, John 5:17 gives us this promise!
“For the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.” Psalm 100:5
Fill Your Cup with Living Water
As women, we often spend our days pouring ourselves out for others—whether it’s for kids, work, family, or friends. We do, do, do, and it can be exhausting. But what’s filling your cup? Is it God’s goodness, or the things of this world that drain you further? I invite you to hold your cup up to God and let Him fill it with His love, His strength, and His living water.
Not know does He know you; He knows you SO well that He knows exactly what you need without you even speaking it. Hold out an empty cup, He will fill it.
Remember the woman at the well—her life was changed because she encountered Jesus and allowed Him to fill her with life and renewal. The same is true for us. When we lift our hearts to God, He meets us, fills us, and reminds us of who we are—handcrafted with purpose.
Who Does God Say You Are?
Let’s take a moment to reflect on what the Creator says about us. We are:
- Loved
- Favored
- His handiwork, created for good works
- Strong helpers and protectors
- Valued and chosen
- His Daughter
You are not alone in this journey of motherhood or life. God, who is good, who is good to you, and who is good at being God, is with you every step of the way. God knows you as His own daughter, there’s no more powerful answer than that.
